Karibu-Nairobi; Stamped and approved

A design study reimagining postage stamps as honest visual narratives of contemporary Nairobi—moving beyond tourist-friendly aesthetics to capture the authentic, lived reality of the city. The Challenge Postage stamps once served as miniature cultural ambassadors, carrying a nation's identity across borders. But when did we stop updating the story? This project explores how design can document place authentically through an overlooked medium. The Approach Creating a stamp collection that reflects the real Nairobi—the chaos, the culture, the contradictions—rather than sanitized representations. Each stamp captures a fragment of daily life, celebrating the unfiltered character of the city.
